I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Austin, TX. I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from Louisiana State University and my Masters in Clinical Psychology from Missouri State University. I have a special interest in working with children, empowering them through the utilization of play therapy; however, I regularly work with adolescents and adults as well. I conduct individual, family, and group therapy sessions and am experienced in working with a variety of ages, populations, and diagnoses.
Through my private practice, as well as positions in a nursing home, victim center, county jail, and university facility, I have worked with individuals along the entire spectrum of mental health and wellness. From young children to geriatric clients and from traumatized individuals to offenders, I have experience assessing and treating individuals, groups, and families with mental illness, mood disorders, histories of trauma and family violence, substance abuse, and complex interpersonal issues. In my private practice I specialize in adjustment disorders, attachment disorders, ADHD, anxiety, depression, anger management, parenting issues, behavioral disorders, and family transitions.
I practice an eclectic therapy approach, blending various aspects of cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic methods to create my own custom made approach. I work with my clients to create a treatment plan that encompasses different techniques to best address each client’s particular problems and fit with each client’s personality. I conduct play therapy with most of the children I see as well. Play therapy is a form of counseling that relies on play to help therapists communicate with children and diagnose their mental health. Because children develop cognitive skills before language skills, play is an effective way to engage and understand children, and to allow them to express themselves in a safe way. By observing children playing with toys, therapists are better able to understand children’s behavior, feelings, and thought processes. I strive to create a trusting, safe environment and to build connections with my clients that enable them to feel comfortable exploring their individual experiences and finding new ways of understanding their choices and patterns in life.
